Determining connections between ecological functions, environmental factors and human health is imperative to promoting healthy environment and humans’ well-being. In the given context, GNHI recent research endeavors reflect exploratory studies on microbiota assemblages of water and soil across different recreational zones of Georgia, including the Black Sea coast. Our research on microbiota is focused not only on determining microbial genetic diversity, but also microbial interactions and mechanisms underlying the emergence of strains highly pathogenic to humans and/or animals, and their resistance to antibiotics in different environments. On a more broader scale, we study air, water and soil pollution across different urban and rural territories of the country.
